The bug has to do with bundle attachments as far as I can tell, and seems to also happen with non bugged guns when you have a backpack without a stow weapon slot. Any attachment from a bundle will bug any gun. This applies to insured, or contraband guns, either awarded or player weapons extracted.

You can't have a blueprint weapon in your insured slot. It would be fun if the game rewarded xp for starting with knuckles. Then maybe it wouldn't feel so crumby when this happens.
