Auto save doesnt overrite manual saves, just the autosave slot. The most recent save is at the top of the list. If it doesnt say auto save next to the save name, its q manual save. Got it? Ok. Plus the controls arent bad, i havent had any issues with them, maybe youre jus bad. I am no idiot. Also, the top save file is the latest auto save.
