In 1888,the first Mauser rifles had a barrel with a 7.8mm bore ,the bottom of the rifling had a 8.07mm diameter.This cartridge has been duplicated for civil use in drillings or double rifles ,the difference is that the civilian (?) cartridges had a rim (or rand in german)and was loaded to make less pressure.
