After freshening up the top-end of my XR650L this winter, I decided to top it off with a "better" carb. My engine is close to all stock internals still. The only thing I changed was I installed an XR600R JE piston which bumps compression from 8.3-1 to around 9.5-1. And I chose better valve seals (Kibblewhite red viton). Back to the carb

This week we are checking out XR’s Only’s Full Exhaust System for the Honda XR650L/XR600. This unit fits all XR-Ls and XR600s from 1988 and up.The XR400 is by far the best for trails. The 600 felt heavy and did not care for the frame. The 650L was just a lot of work on tight trails, but would just eat up the mining roads in Colorado. (the last spec is only to be used on heavy machinery!) 1/2 grunt and some loctite blue works for me. watch that last one - it can lead to a failure of the chit air separator ?, With stock jetting you'll be running a bit lean. That means that the engine will run hotter, which could be an issue if you get hot days in Rhode Island (I have no idea what your weather is like). I've found that lean jetting means longer warmup and some misfiring, at least on the few XR650Ls that I've ridden., Honestly when it comes to best dual sport, you kind of have to judge based on what flaws you're okay with.
